Synopsis
In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.

Audition Choreography:
Do I need to sing a song from the show, and do I need accompaniment?
You may sing a song from the show or in the style of the time (think Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, etc.). Showcase your strengths in about 60 seconds. We will have music director David Berryhill accompanying on piano. Sheet music is preferred, but you may bring a track if needed.
What is the minimum age to audition?
16 & up.
What should I wear?
Wear whatever you prefer, but be prepared to move. You may bring a change of clothes or wear something comfortable from the start.
What should I expect at auditions?
Plan to stay for the full hour. Please warm up vocally before arriving and plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early, e.g., a 10:10 AM slot may run until at least 11:00 AM. Your appointment will consist of:
- Your song
- Vocal Range check with David
- Cold reading from sides (no memorization required; paper copies provided)
- (During the last ten minutes or so of the hour) Learning choreography – we strongly encourage you to learn as much as possible ahead of time.
Do I need to sign up, or can I just show up? What if I’m late?
Appointments are required. Please sign up using the provided link. Each slot is 10 minutes, so punctuality is important. Arrive 5–10 minutes early.
If you are late or miss your time, email theatre@theatrelongview.com and we will try to work something out.
Will auditions be recorded? Will there be an audience?
Auditions will be recorded and shared only with the production team. Auditions are closed, meaning no audience will be present.
Do I need to memorize sides or prepare an accent?
No memorization is required; sides will be provided. Accents are optional. Oklahoma accents are not far removed from East Texas.
Can I audition for multiple roles?
Yes. Only one appointment is needed. We may ask you to do more at callbacks if necessary.
Will you accept video auditions?
In-person auditions are preferred, but you may submit a video (song, sides, and choreography) to theatre@theatrelongview.com
When are callbacks, and what if I don’t get one?
Callbacks: Monday, April 20th at 6:00 PM at the LCC.
Not receiving a callback does not mean you are not cast.
When do rehearsals start? What is the schedule?
(Tentative, subject to change after casting)
First read-through: April 25
Rehearsals: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, 6:30–9:00 PM
If you cannot attend the read-through, you can still be cast. Just let us know in advance.
Which recording of Oklahoma should I listen to?
Anything except the 2019 Revival Cast Recording (not available for licensing). Recommended options include the 1998 National Theatre recording (Hugh Jackman) or the 1979 Broadway Cast recording.
What are you looking for, and how large is the cast?
We are looking for authenticity. Please avoid impersonations of specific performers like Hugh Jackman, Christine Ebersole, Rebecca Naomi Jones, or Alfred Molina. We aim to cast as age-appropriately as possible. Ideally, the cast will include 30 or more performers.
