Synopsis
“Misery,” adapted from Stephen King’s novel by William Goldman, follows the story of novelist Paul Sheldon, who is held captive by his “number one fan,” Annie Wilkes. After a car accident in a remote area, Paul is rescued by Annie, a former nurse, who takes him to her home. However, Annie’s obsession with Paul’s work turns sinister when she discovers he has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. She forces Paul to write a new novel bringing Misery back to life, subjecting him to psychological and physical torment until he complies. The play explores themes of fan obsession, control, and survival.
